About Perrier
Perrier originates from the Vergèze spring in the Gard département of southern France, near Nîmes. The spring produces naturally carbonated water — water that rises through the earth carrying dissolved CO2 from the same volcanic geological formation. During extraction, the CO2 is separated from the water, the water is filtered, and the CO2 is re-injected to the exact original concentration before bottling. The spring was formally developed from 1906 by Sir St John Harmsworth, a British entrepreneur who leased the source and commercialised the water internationally. Harmsworth is credited with the distinctive hammerhead bottle shape, introduced in the 1930s, which remains the brand's iconic form. Perrier has been part of the Nestlé group since 1992. The brand is one of the most widely exported French mineral waters and remains the reference for French sparkling water in international markets.
Plain Sparkling Water
- Perrier 6×1L: the standard glass bottle format — tall, elongated, suited for table service. The 1L format is the traditional choice for restaurants and dinner tables. Perrier Glass Bottle 8×20cl: the classic small format, originally designed for Harmsworth's hotel and café market — 20cl glass bottles with a distinctive green glass and prominent label. A collectible format.
- Perrier 6×50cl: a compact plastic bottle suited for individual daily use, office hydration or on-the-go. Perrier Cans Pack 6×33cl: aluminium can format — convenient for picnics, outdoor use and venues where glass is not suitable. The can preserves carbonation effectively and chills quickly.
- Perrier Fines Bulles 6×1L and Fines Bulles 6×50cl: Perrier's fine-bubble variant — the same Vergèze mineral water with a modified carbonation process that produces smaller, finer bubbles. Fine bubbles create a gentler effervescence, perceived as smoother and less aggressive on the palate than the standard Perrier bubble. Well suited for sensitive palates, food pairing and those who find large-bubble sparkling water too assertive.
Flavoured Sparkling Water
Perrier's flavoured range adds natural flavourings to the plain sparkling water base without adding sugar. All flavoured variants are zero-calorie and retain the full Perrier bubble intensity.
- Perrier Lemon 1L and Perrier Lemon 6×50cl: lemon-flavoured sparkling water — a bright citrus note derived from lemon flavouring, with no sweetener or added sugar. The lemon range is one of Perrier's oldest flavoured variants. Perrier Lime 1L, Perrier Lime 6×50cl and Perrier Lime 6×33cl cans: lime variant — a slightly more aromatic, sharper citrus note than lemon, suited for pairing with savoury food or for use in cocktail mixers and mocktails.
- Perrier Forever Lemon Homemade 6×33cl and Perrier Forever Lime Homemade 6×33cl: the Forever Homemade sub-range positions itself as a more natural, artisan-style flavoured water — marketed with a "homemade" recipe concept and a slightly more intense, rounded flavour than the standard flavoured Perrier line.
Perrier & Juice
The Perrier & Juice range (sold as Maison Perrier in some formats) blends Perrier sparkling water with a percentage of real fruit juice — typically around 30% juice content — for a lightly sweetened, naturally fruity sparkling drink with fewer calories than a conventional soft drink. The range covers tropical and summer fruit pairings:
- Maison Perrier Peach Cherry Juice 4×25cl: peach and cherry — a French summer fruit combination. Perrier Guava Lemon 4×25cl: tropical guava with fresh lemon — guava provides a sweet, floral tropical base contrasted by citrus acidity. Perrier Pineapple Mango 4×25cl: classic tropical pairing — sweet pineapple and mango with Perrier bubbles. Perrier Strawberry Kiwi 4×25cl: strawberry and kiwi — strawberry provides the sweetness, kiwi the tartness.
Perrier Energize
Perrier Energize is Perrier's organic energy drink range, launched in the early 2020s, combining Perrier sparkling water with natural caffeine from green coffee beans and mate leaf extract. The range carries an organic (bio) certification and contains no taurine or synthetic stimulants. The flavoured variants are:
- Perrier Energize Blackberry 4×25cl: blackberry-flavoured organic energy drink — 25cl can format. Perrier Energize Grapefruit 6×33cl: the flagship grapefruit flavour in a 6-pack 33cl can, suited for regular consumption. Perrier Energize Grenade (Pomegranate) 4×33cl: pomegranate flavour — a fruit with a high perceived wellness profile and a distinctive tart-sweet taste. Perrier Energize Mandarine (Tangerine) 6×33cl: a soft, aromatic tangerine flavour — more approachable and sweet than the grapefruit variant.

Perrier FAQs
What makes Perrier's bubbles different from other sparkling waters?
Perrier's bubbles come from the same geological source as the water itself — the Vergèze spring sits above a layer of volcanic rock through which natural CO2 seeps upward, charging the rising water with carbonation. This is the same principle as all natural mineral sparkling waters: the CO2 is geogenic (produced by the earth), not manufactured industrially. The process at Vergèze separates the CO2 at the point of extraction, filters the water, and re-injects the gas to the same concentration that was natural in the spring. The result is a very high carbonation level — Perrier is typically more aggressively carbonated than San Pellegrino or many other sparkling mineral waters. The large, fast-rising bubbles are partly a product of this high CO2 concentration and partly a function of the bottle design (narrow tall shape maintains pressure while still allowing vigorous release on opening). The Fines Bulles variant uses a modified process to produce smaller bubbles while maintaining the Vergèze mineral composition and flavour.
What is the difference between Perrier and Perrier Fines Bulles?
Both Perrier and Perrier Fines Bulles originate from the Vergèze spring and carry the same natural mineral water classification and mineral composition. The difference is only in the bubble size — Fines Bulles (fine bubbles) undergoes a carbonation process that produces smaller, more numerous bubbles compared with the standard Perrier, which has larger, more assertive bubbles. In practice, fine bubbles feel smoother and less sharp on the palate — the CO2 disperses more gradually in the mouth and creates a gentler effervescence. Standard Perrier has a more pronounced, prickling sensation. Neither variant contains added gas beyond what originates naturally at the Vergèze source; both are naturally carbonated mineral waters under EU regulations. The choice between them is a matter of personal preference and context: standard Perrier has a stronger identity as a refreshing, high-energy drink; Fines Bulles is often preferred for pairing with food or for extended hydration during a meal.
