A plant with magical virtues. Garlic originated in Asia, but we owe its name to the Celts. The word garlic comes from the Celtic word "all" which means hot: garlic does indeed have a "fiery temperament" even though at harvest time, in May, it is more tender and milder than in winter. Cultivated in the Mediterranean since antiquity, garlic was appreciated by the Ancients for its medicinal value as much as for its culinary interest.
