More About Monster Munch
The Monster Munch collection at Epicerie Corner brings together 10 Monster Munch products: the classic monster-claw corn puff snacks in six flavours (Barbecue, Ketchup, Pizza, Ham and Cheese, Salted and Cheddar) in 75–135g bags, and the newer Tuiles Crazy flat crisps range in tube format (Onions Cream and Paprika, 150g).
About Monster Munch
Monster Munch is a corn-based puff snack shaped like monster claws or feet — the distinctive shape is one of the most recognisable in the French crisps and snacks category. In France, Monster Munch is produced by Frito-Lay France (a PepsiCo subsidiary) and has been sold since 1979. The French version differs slightly from the British Monster Munch (launched in 1977): the French range uses a puffed corn base that produces a lighter, crispier texture than the denser original British corn puff. The monster foot shape, with its three "toes", makes Monster Munch one of the few snacks deliberately designed to be recognisable as a character, which has driven strong brand recognition with children and adults alike in France. The range is often positioned in the aperitif category alongside standard crisps, as the bags are sized for sharing.
Classic Corn Puff Snacks — 85g
The standard Monster Munch range is sold in 85g bags in five distinct flavours:
- Monster Munch Barbecue 85g: the most popular Monster Munch flavour in France — a smoky barbecue seasoning applied to the light corn puff base. The barbecue flavour combines sugar, smoked paprika and vinegar notes.
- Monster Munch Ketchup 85g: tomato-ketchup flavoured corn puffs — sweet, tangy and lightly salted. The ketchup flavour is one of the original French Monster Munch varieties.
- Monster Munch Pizza 85g: pizza-flavoured puffs combining tomato, herbs (oregano) and cheese flavour notes — a classic French snack flavour.
- Monster Munch Ham and Cheese 85g: jambon-fromage — one of the most distinctly French flavour combinations, replicating the classic French croque-monsieur pairing in corn puff form.
- Monster Munch Salted 85g: the plain, salted variant — the base corn puff flavour with salt only, for those who prefer a more neutral snack without artificial flavourings.
- Monster Munch Bolognese 75g: a slightly smaller 75g format with a bolognese seasoning — meat-sauce flavour notes inspired by the Italian pasta dish.
- Monster Munch Cheddar Flavour Corn Snacks 85g: a Cheddar cheese variant introduced to the French range — sharp cheddar flavour powder applied to the corn puff base. Cheddar as a snack flavour is established in the British market and increasingly popular in France.
Family Format
- Monster Munch Salted Family 135g: the larger family-size bag of the classic salted variant — the 135g format contains approximately 60% more product than the standard 85g bag, suited for sharing at home, parties and aperitif occasions.
Monster Munch Tuiles Crazy — New Format
The Tuiles Crazy range is a newer format extension from Monster Munch, targeting older consumers with a different texture and packaging format — flat, round tuile-shaped (curved tile-shaped) crisps in a tube, similar in presentation to Pringles-style tube snacks:
- Monster Munch Tuiles Crazy Oignons Cream 150g: flat curved crisps with a cream onion (crème d'oignons) flavouring — the sour cream and onion combination is one of the most popular flavours globally in the flat crisp format.
- Monster Munch Tuiles Crazy Paprika 150g: flat crisps with paprika flavouring — smoky and slightly sweet paprika applied to the flat crisp base. The tube format (150g) is designed for sharing in an aperitif or movie-watching context, where the tube prevents the flat crisps from breaking.

Monster Munch FAQs
What is Monster Munch made from?
Monster Munch corn puffs are produced from a cornmeal (polenta) or corn grits base that is cooked under pressure and extruded through a die shaped like the monster-claw mould. The extrusion process uses steam and pressure to expand the corn starch, creating the characteristic light, airy texture. After extrusion and shaping, the puffs are dried in an oven, seasoned with flavour powder (a dry blend of salt, spices, flavour enhancers and sometimes colouring), and cooled before packaging. The result is a product with a very low density and an instant crunch that dissolves quickly on the palate — quite different from fried potato crisps, which have a denser, harder bite from the potato and frying oil.
Are Monster Munch suitable for children?
Monster Munch are marketed to children and adults alike in France — the playful monster shape and the aperitif/snack positioning target a wide age range. However, like most flavoured corn snacks, they are a processed product with significant salt content, flavour enhancers (monosodium glutamate in some flavours) and artificial flavourings. French nutritionists and the Programme National Nutrition Santé (PNNS) recommend limiting salted snacks in children's diets and treating them as occasional treats rather than daily food. The plain salted variant has fewer additives than the flavoured versions. The bags are not resealable, so they are suited for consumption at a single occasion.
